Wild Things Sign RHP Drew Stegura, a COPL All Star and 2026 D2 All-American
WASHINGTON, Pa. (July 23) – The Washington Wild Things have signed right-handed pitcher Drew Stegura to the active roster and have tapped him as the starting pitcher for tonight’s finale and rubber game with the Lake Erie Crushers at EQT Park. Stegura was a Division II All-American at Belmont Abbey this season as well as a Coastal Plain League All Star in what his second season with Wilmington at the start of the summer.
Stegura was 9-1 this season in college with a 3.86 ERA in 15 games (13 starts) for the Crusaders. He logged 74.2 innings and allowed 61 hits and 37 walks with 80 strikeouts this season and was named First-Team All-Conference Carolinas, Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Year, First-Team ABCA All-Southeast Region, NCBWA Regional Pitcher of the Year and NCBWA First-Team All-America. In four total seasons at Belmont Abbey, he was 29-10 with a 4.74 ERA in 79 games (35 starts) and had five saves. In 288.2 collegiate innings he walked 134 and struck out 297.
The righty pitched in the Coastal Plain League for three summers, starting in 2024 with Morehead City, where he had a 2.76 ERA in four games (three starts) and struck out 16 in 16.1 innings of work. He pitched for Wilmington last summer, going 2-1 with a 1.88 ERA in four games (three starts). He posted a 1.88 ERA in 14.1 innings and walked only five against 22 strikeouts. This season, he was named a Coastal Plain League All Star, having started five of his six outings. He was 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA in 22.2 innings to start the summer, walked eight and fanned 33.
Stegura will start against the Crushers tonight in his professional debut. No corresponding moves to clear space needed to be made by Washington, as the team’s roster now sits at 25.
