Washington Signs RHP Eldridge Armstrong III to Active Roster
WASHINGTON, Pa. (July 22) – Prior to today’s middle game with Lake Erie, Washington made a pair of roster moves, including the signing of right-handed pitcher Eldridge Armstrong III, who will be active tonight from the bullpen. Armstrong III was pitching in the Empire League this summer after a brief stint in the Pioneer League.
In six games for the Malone Border Hounds, he logged 6.1 innings of work and allowed only one hit and a walk with 11 strikeouts. He threw a bullpen for Washington while the team was in New York and the club made his signing official today.
Last year, the righty from Pasadena, California appeared in 28 games (two starts) in the Pioneer League between two teams. He worked in 17 games for Glacier and 11 for Northern Colorado. In 45.2 innings, he struck out 47 against 25 walks but struggled to an 11.36 combined ERA. His first taste of pro ball came off his final collegiate season, spent at Texas A&M in 2024. He made four relief appearances that season, fanning seven in 4.2 innings of work. He held Grambling scoreless over 2.1 innings with three punchouts in the regional that season, a season that was the Aggies finish runner up in Omaha. He signed with the Mets as an undrafted free agent in the summer of 2024 but was released not having appeared in any games in rookie ball, where he was stationed in the complex for the Mets.
As a sophomore at San Diego State in 2023, he made 30 appearances from the pen, going 5-1 with a 3.24 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 41.2 innings of work. He saw action in 15 games as a freshman on The Mesa, making two starts. In 24.2 innings pitche,d he fanned 25 against 11 walks and posted a 4.28 ERA. He also spent time in the California Collegiate League, made 13 appearances for La Crosse in the 2022 Northwoods League season and pitched in two games in the Cape Cod League in 2023.
At Monte Vista Academy, he was ranked as the No. 1 third baseman in the Class of 2021 from California and 18th overall player in the state according to Perfect Game. He was merited first-team 2020 preseason PG Underclass All-America honors for the California region after High Honorable Mention honors in 2019.
