Washington Signs Ex-Cubs Farmhand Kenten Egbert to Active Roster
WASHINGTON, Pa. (August 6) – The Wild Things have signed RHP Kenten Egbert to the active roster to make tonight’s rubber-game start against Down East at EQT Park. Egbert comes to Washington following a release from the Chicago Cubs farm system, where he spent the last three seasons including the start of this summer, spanning his entire pro career thus far.
Egbert is a Tipp City, Ohio, native and played for two Cubs affiliates this season. He pitched in 17 games, making one start, for the South Bend Cubs, the High-A affiliate of the organization. He had a 6.00 ERA in 24.0 innings with nine walks and 20 strikeouts. He also appeared in three games at Triple-A Iowa but got roughed up a bit over eight innings of work. He did fan four. The righty spent the whole 2025 campaign with South Bend and was 7-8 with a 4.26 ERA in 25 games (17 starts) with a save in a career-high 101.1 innings pitched. He struck out 60 and walked 25. In 2024, he spent the summer with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (A) and was 7-2 with a 3.04 ERA in 23 games (16 starts). In 97.2 innings, he struck out 104 against 32 walks and 72 hits allowed.
He was a four-year member of the Miami (Ohio) baseball team in college and went 8-11 over those four seasons with a 4.66 ERA in 45 games (21 starts). In 162.1 career collegiate innings, he walked 63 and struck out 181. He sported a 1.51 ERA in 13 games (three starts) in 2021 and fanned 33 against 11 walks in 35.2 innings before being named First-Team All-MAC in 2023 after going 5-3 with a 3.96 ERA in 15 games (1o starts). In 75 innings to close his college time, he struck out 90 and walked 29.
He was a four-year letterwinner at Tippecanoe High School in Ohio and was a First-Team All-State selection in 2019.
Egbert will start tonight’s game against the Down East Bird Dawgs, making his first appearance in live action since July 24, where he pitched 1.1 frames for South Bend against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
