Big Nights from Fowler, Perez Lead to Win in Front of Sellout
WASHINGTON, Pa. (Aug. 4) – The Washington Wild Things were victorious 4-1 over the Down East Bird Dawgs in front of a packed house on Tuesday night at EQT Park. A total of 3,607 fans filled the stands to take in the ballgame, marking the ninth sellout of the 2026 season and the largest crowd in Washington since July 23, 2024.
Wild Things’ starting pitcher Kelvin Perez tossed seven innings of one-run ball in his fifth start of the 2026 campaign. The right-hander allowed six hits, walked just one and struck out four in his third quality start and fifth win of the season.
Down East got its only run of the night in the top of the first with a two-out RBI single by Ali LaPread.
Washington responded in the home half of the second inning when Cole Fowler launched his 11th long ball of the year, a three-run shot over the video board in right field, to give Washington a 3-1 lead. To lead off the third inning, Antonio Monroy hit Washington’s second home run in as many innings, to boost the lead to 4-1.
While Washington added to its run total, Perez shut down the Bird Dawgs offense. He retired 10 straight batters at one point in his outing, a streak that spanned from the last batter he faced in the first inning through the completion of the fourth inning. Perez worked out of a jam in the sixth inning stranding two runners, and then stranded another in the seventh to finish his day.
In the eighth inning, Washington got an insurance run on a two-out RBI triple by Cole Fowler that scored Jeff Liquori from first base.
Michael Foltz Jr. tossed two scoreless innings with five punchouts to close out the game and earn his first professional save.
The Wild Things, who have a league-best 50-23 record, are the first club in the Frontier League to reach the 50-win mark in what has been a historic season so far in Washington.
Washington will host Down East again on Wednesday night with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m. It’s a Dollar Dog Night presented by Berks Foods and a Senior Slugger Program Wednesday, presented by AARP Pennsylvania.
