Wild Things Win Game 1, Game 2 PPD to Sunday

WASHINGTON, Pa. (June 14) – Four runs across the fourth and fifth innings helped the Washington Wild Things come back from down 3-0 to win the second game of the series against the Joliet Slammers, 4-3. It was the first game of a scheduled doubleheader. The second game was postponed and will be made up at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 15, with the originally scheduled Sunday game starting at 5 p.m. now instead of 5:35 p.m.

In game one, Joliet took a 3-0 lead with two runs in the first inning and one run in the second. After a 20-minute weather delay following the second inning, Washington starter Dominic Puccetti found his stride and tossed back-to-back scoreless frames in the third and fourth.

Kaden Morton tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning with a three-run, base-clearing double to the right-center gap, scoring Wagner Lagrange, Ethan Wilder and Cael Chatham. Wagner Lagrange’s fifth-inning RBI double proved to be the difference, as the Wild Things took a 4-3 lead and never looked back. Lagrange went 3-for-3 in game one with two doubles.

Washington right-hander Hector Garcia retired five Joliet batters in relief en route to earning the win, his first as a professional. Andrew Herbert came on for Washington in the final frame and retired the side in order, including back-to-back strikeouts to end the game and earn the save. The series is now even, as Joliet won game one Friday, 12-2.

Fans with tickets for Saturday night can exchange those tickets for any future 2025 Wild Things home game. Tickets already purchased for Sunday, June 15’s originally scheduled game, which is now a 5 p.m. start instead of 5:35 p.m., are good to attend both games.

Gates will open at 12:45 p.m. for anybody with a ticket to Sunday’s game, but fans in premium area seating (Pepsi Party Deck, EQT Pavilion and Suite Level) will receive their meals but starting at 4 p.m. instead of the usual 4:15 p.m. start of food for Sundays.

The kids giveaway, a Rubix Cube presented by First Federal Savings and Loan of Greene County, will start being handed out at 4 p.m. at the gates, but kids who come in earlier will receive a coupon to claim their giveaway at the customer service booth. Kids Eat Free meal vouchers can be redeemed starting at 4 p.m.
