Maxx Garrett Elevated in Marlins Organization to Director of Catching
WASHINGTON, Pa. (Nov. 21) – Former Wild Things catcher Maxx Garrett (2013-15) has been elevated in the Miami Marlins organization to the role of Director of Catching after serving as a hitting and catching coordinator last season in the same organization.
Before the Marlins, Garrett, 34, spent five years at Driveline Baseball as the Lead Hitting Trainer and Catching Trainer. While there, he oversaw the Washington location’s hitting department, managing the training plans for their highest-level athletes and leveraging data for designing implementing and executing hitting and catching programs, according to the team’s release.
Garrett played at Gonzaga for two seasons prior to making his pro debut as a Wild Thing in 2013. He was with the Wild Things from 2013-15 and played in a total of 134 games with the Things. He slugged 14 homers in that time and drove in 38. He’d go on to play two seasons in St. Paul with the Saints, then an American Association team. He played his final season in pro ball in 2018 with Sioux Falls in the AA. He threw out 26% of baserunners in pro ball.
The Marlins announced the move as part of a series of updates to their baseball operations leadership structure today.
