Seventh-Inning Double Lifts Florence Over Washington
FLORENCE, Ky. (July 14) – Thanks to a two-run double in the seventh from Zade Richardson, the Florence Y’alls snapped an 11-game skid and took the series opener against the Wild Things, 6-4.
The game started well for Washington with Anthony Brocato hitting the first of his two home runs in the first inning to lead the game off. After a scoreless first from Hayden Shenefield, an Abraham Sequera error, a single and a walk loaded the bases for Florence in the second with nobody out, and on a 2-0 pitch to Jeremiah Burks, Burks hit a grand slam to make it 4-1 Florence.
Brocato hit his second homer of the night and 16th of the year, good for his fourth multi-home run game of the season, to cut into the Y’alls lead at 4-2. In the fifth, Wagner Lagrange hit a solo shot, his 17th of the season, to make it 4-3. In the sixth, JC Santini singled home a run to make it 4-4.
Hayden Shenefield allowed three earned runs (four total) on seven hits and struck out seven in six frames in the start for Washington and got a no decision. Arrison Perez suffered the loss after allowing the two-run double to Richardson in the seventh. Justin Goossen-Brown worked a one-two-three eighth.
Washington got the tying run on base in the ninth but couldn’t muster any more scoring and dropped the opener.
The Wild Things and Florence Y’alls will play the middle game of the series tomorrow at 6:36 p.m. at Thomas More Stadium. Lefty Kobe Foster will take the mound for the Wild Things and be opposed by righty Edgar Martinez.
