Lake Erie Belts Three Homers In Game 1, Drops Washington
AVON, Ohio (August 12, Game 1) - Lake Erie used a strong start from Jake Pilarski and three home runs in innings two through three to even the series with a 5-1 win in game one of the doubleheader at Mercy Health Stadium, dropping Washington to 35-32 on the year. The Wild Things do not lose ground in the Northeast Division, as Sussex County lost the first of its doubleheader at New York Thursday as well.
Lake Erie started the scoring in the second inning of the first tilt Thursday. Steve Passatempo hit his sixth home run of the season to lead off the second inning against right hander Daren Osby. The next pitch was hit to center and bounced over the wall for Brody Wofford for a book-rule double. He'd score a few batters later on an RBI single by Eric Callahan.
The Crushers added three runs in the third inning on two home runs. Connor Oliver hit his seventh of the year and later in the frame, Brody Wofford hit his seventh of the season, a two-run shot to make it 5-0.
Nick Ward got Washington on the board with a homer for the second-straight game. His fifth was tucked in the right field corner over the wall and made it 5-1 in the sixth inning to end the shutout bid of Pittsburgh native and Fox Chapel product Jake Pilarski. Pilarski ended up going six innings or his third victory, allowing three hits and one run and he fanned seven.
Game two will begin shortly in Avon at Mercy Health Stadium.
