Washington Wins Series Opener Against Lake Erie
WASHINGTON, Pa. (June 18) - The Wild Things used two three-hit performances, a three-RBI night from Hector Roa and strong pitching to take the series opener with the Lake Erie Crushers 5-2, allowing them to win for the fifth time in their last six games.
The scoring started in the bottom of the third when Andrew Czech doubled home Andrew Sohn to make it 1-0 Washington. The Wild Things added two in the fourth, the first of which came in on a broken-bat flare by Hector Roa to plate Grant Heyman. The second run scored on a double by newcomer Andrew Sohn.
Lake Erie scored the next two runs on errors before Roa hit his fourth home run of the season to add to his night in the sixth. Jesus Balaguer, BJ Sabol, James Meeker and Zach Strecker combined to finish the game for Ryan Hennen, who moved to 3-0 with the win. Strecker picked up his 56th career save, which pulls him into a tie with Bobby Chandler (1998-02 - Chillicothe, Richmond and Johnstown) for third all time in Frontier League history.
The Wild Things and Crushers will battle again tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. on a night dedicated to the 2020-2021 Frontier League Hall of Fame Class, which will be inducted before the game in an on-field ceremony.
