Washington Gets Good Pitching, Can't Must Much Offense in Loss
FLORENCE, Ky. (August 4) - The Wild Things didn't muster much offensively, and despite the team only allowing two runs to the homestanding Freedom, the Wild Things fell in the finale, and thus the series, by a final of 2-0.
Washington had its best chance of the day in the second inning, when it loaded the bases with a hit, a walk and a hit batter, but, despite having two outs to work with and the bags full, were unable to score. Cameron Baranek bounced into a 1-2-3 double play to end the frame.
Florence then scored the game's first run in the home second, when catcher Ryan Rinsky singled home a runner who had walked and stole two bases. Luis Pintor, who was that scoring runner, then homered in the fourth to extend the Freedom lead to 2-0.
Johnathon Tripp got the win after six scoreless innings. He allowed one hit, a single by Hector Roa in the second, and fanned four. Tripp walked two and hit a batter in his second start of the season. His counterpart, Washington's John Havird pitched his second quality start of the week, tossing six innings of two-run ball. Havird took the loss to fall to 5-5.
The Wild Things also got the first two batters aboard in the eighth, but a failed sac bunt, followed by a strikeout and a fly out, ended the threat. Washington also had runners on the first bags in the ninth with one out, and then on second and third with two outs before a punchout ended the game.
Hector Roa had two hits and Stephen Lohr had one. That was all the hits the Wild Things came up with Sunday.
Washington opens a seven-game homestand Tuesday against Joliet, with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m. at Wild Things Park.
