Murphy, Erickson Homer in Wild Things Loss
WASHINGTON, Pa. (July 23) - Washington received solo homers from Alex Murphy and Cody Erickson in Tuesday's loss to the River City Rascals, as they were unable to complete a comeback from down 3-0.
The Rascals got a sacrifice fly from Braxton Martinez in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead and added two in the second on Tanner Murphy's fourth home run of the year.
Alex Murphy hit his second home run in as many games and now has four extra-base hits as a Wild Thing in as many games, to make it 3-1 in the bottom of the second. The scoring would stop until the seventh, when catcher Cody Erickson hit his third of the year to bring the deficit to one.
The Wild Things put the tying and go-ahead run on base in the eighth and the tying run on in the ninth but were unable to plate them, falling for the 15th time this season by one run.
The two teams meet again for the middle game of the set tomorrow, with left-hander Josh Lapiana set to take the mound for Washington and River City right-handed pitcher Taylor Ahearn. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. on a Win Big Wednesday presented by Dean's Water.
