Cody Erickson Hits Home Run in Loss
WASHINGTON, Pa. (June 30) - Washington got a solo homer to break a shutout effort of right-handed pitcher Daren Osby to lead off the eighth inning, but it turned out to be all the fireworks Washington could muster in the rubber game, as the Wild Things fell to the Slammers 3-1 Sunday at Wild Things Park.
Joliet scored runs in the fourth and sixth innings, with a solo homer by Harrison Bragg in the fourth and two scoring plays in the sixth: a Peyton Isaacson run-scoring knock and a wild pitch.
Osby was excellent to get his first win, as he fanned seven Wild Things and allowed all three Wild Things hits in the Joliet triumph. Osby pitched eight innings and allowed just the eighth inning home run to Cody Erickson, which was his second of the year and first at home.
Michael Austin took the loss, despite 5.1 innings of just two-run bal.. Four relievers finished the game for the Wild Things.
The team now shifts its focus to a three-game road trip at the Lake Erie Crushers, which starts Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. John Havird will take the mound for Washington in Tuesday's series opener in Avon, Ohio. Coverage of the game is available via the Wild Things Baseball Network and livestream.com/WildThings and the team's Twitter/Periscope page, @WashWildThings.
