Washington Walks Off to Take Series vs Lake Erie
WASHINGTON, Pa. (June 27) - Washington won its first one-run game of the year Thursday, with the international tie breaker rule in effect in the rubber game's 11th inning, as Crushers' first baseman Dale Burdick made an error on a ground ball by Blake Adams, which allowed Saige Jenco to score, giving the Wild Things the win.
Lake Erie started the scoring in the first inning, plating two on a single by designated hitter John Cable. Washington got a run in the home half on an error on a batted ball by Hector Roa, who with the play, got his 31st RBI of the season. Dale Burdick hit a home run to lead off the second to give the Crushers a 3-1 lead.
The Wild Things fought back, scoring a run in the fourth inning on a groundout by Chase Slone and then two in the sixth. The first came in on an RBI triple by Cody Erickson and the second scored on a squeeze play by second baseman Chase Sudduth, giving the Things a 4-3 lead.
It would vanquish in the seventh, as Lake Erie tied the game.
It would remain that way until the error by Burdick brought home Jenco to give the Wild Things a series win for the second-straight series.
Jesus Balaguer got the win in relief, with two scoreless innings. He fanned three. Balaguer was the fourth to pitch, coming in after Eric Morell, the starter, who threw four innings of three-run ball, Josh Lapiana, who tossed 2.2 innings of one-run ball and James Meeker who logged 2.1 innings of scoreless ball.
The Wild Things, with the win and a Schaumburg loss tonight, stand four games out of the East Division lead at 18-24. Washington hosts Joliet, a team they swept in the last meeting between the two this season, this weekend. Friday's first pitch at Wild Things Park is slated for 7:05 p.m.
