Grotz added to strengthen Wild Thing bullpen
The Washington Wild Things announce the signing of RHP Zac Grotz following his career with the Houston Astros. The 28th round selection of the 2015 MLB Draft made his presence felt in both the Appalachian and New-York Penn League, as he finished 11 games and earning 5 saves. Grotz posted a 3.27 ERA, while striking out 15 hitters in 22 innings of work. The 6'2 RHP wrapped up his college career at Embry-Riddle, the same baseball program of former Wild Thing star closer Jonathan Kountis. Grotz flashed his dominance with the Eagles, limiting hitters to a .172 BAA and showcasing a stellar 0.70 ERA over 77 innings. The California native collected 9 saves, striking out 90 hitters and only walking 12. "Grotz had a fantastic senior season at Embry-Riddle, a program that has produced so many good Frontier League players over the years. We believe Zach's makeup and demeanor will translate well to a late-inning role here in Washington", said GM Steve Zavacky.
The Washington Wild Things will play their home opener May, 20 against the Lake Erie Crushers at 7:05 p.m. For more information, visit washingtonwildthings.com or call 724.250.9555.
