Washington Falls to Cornbelters 6-1
Normal, IL – The Washington Wild Thing dropped the second game of a three game set against the Normal CornBelters Wednesday evening by a score of 6-1. The rubber match between the two teams will be contested Thursday at the Corn Crib.
Scott Carcaise singled in the fifth inning to drive in David Popkins for Washington’s only run in the game. Carcaise led off the inning with a double.
Conner Kendrick took the loss for Washington allowing four runs on seven hits, while striking out four in 5.1 innings of work. Kolin Stanley pitched 1.1 in relief allowing two runs on four hits, striking out three. Andrew Woeck allowed only one hit and struck out one in 1.1 innings.
Washington’s Jamal Austin made an impressive defensive play in the eighth inning when he made a leaping catch at the left field wall to rob Normal’s Dillon Haupt of what looked like it would be a home run.
Washington and Normal will meet for the final game of the series Thursday when first pitch is schedule for 7:35 EDT. Chase Cunningham will take the hill for Washington. Washington returns to CONSOL Energy Park Friday. Tickets are available at the CONSOL Energy Park box office.
