Foss Honored by Frontier League

Normal CornBelters’ outfielder Mike Fish and Washington Wild Things’ starting pitcher Trevor Foss were named Frontier League Players and Pitcher of the Week, respectively as chosen by Pointstreak, the official statistical provider of the Frontier League and the Independent Professional Baseball Federation.

Fish, who is in his third season of professional baseball and his first in the Frontier League, came into this week with a struggling bat. He turned his around raising his batting average to .274 from .190 after extending his hitting streak now to six straight games. On Wednesday, Fish, went 4-4 against the Wild Things, with 1 stolen base, 1 RBI, and 1 run scored. Fish, then followed this performance with a 1-3 night on Thursday, with 1 double, 1 HBP, and 1 run scored. Sunday, was Fish best performance of the season, he went 3-4, with 3 RBI, 1 home run, 1 double, and 2 runs scored. Originally from Albany, New York the 25-year-old was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 23rd round of the 2013 Frist-Year Player Draft out of Siena College.  Previously, Fish, played in the Arizona League, Pioneer League, Midwest League, Texas League, and California League, making it to play as high as AA with the Arkansas Travelers the Angels affiliate team.

Foss earns this weeks’ Pitcher of the Week honors after his sensational 2-0 week with wins against the CornBelters and Otters.  The 26-year-old right-hander baffled the CornBelters on Tuesday at The Corn Crib, after throwing 9 innings and only allowing 1 run to score, on 6 hits, while striking out 8 batters. While on Sunday at CONSOL Energy Park Foss tossed just over 6 innings, while allowing no runs, a short 4 hits, 1 walk, and 9 impressive strikeouts.  This brought his record up to 3-2 for the season while pitching in 6 games and only having a 2.50 ERA. Along with this Foss, also has 1 save and has only given up 30 hits for the whole season, with 4 walks, and 27 strikeouts. Foss grew up in Janesville, WI and attended Texas A&M University.  He was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 22nd round of the 2013 MLB June Amateur Draft.  This is his first season in the Frontier League; he previously played in Pioneer League, Midwest League, California League, and Arizona League.
