Washington and Windy City Split Double Header
Washington, PA June 8, 2016 – The Washington Wild Things squared off against the Windy City ThunderBolts in their second double header of the season Wednesday night at CONSOL Energy Park. Washington split the double header emerging victorious in game one with a final score of 5-3. Windy City got the best of the Wild Things in game two, defeating Washington by a final score of 3-1.
In the first game of the double-header pitcher Matt Fraudin got the start on the mound. Fraudin allowed six hits, struck out seven and prevented Windy City from scoring in his five innings of work. Zac Grotz is credited with the save; finishing the night with a 0.00 ERA and two strike outs in one inning pitched.
The Wild Things took the early lead in the bottom of the 1st when Bryan Haar blasted one out of the ballpark to score the first run of the game. Washington extended their lead in the bottom of 4th when Logan Uxa hit a triple and was driven home shortly after by catcher Alex Mckeon extending the lead to 2-0.
Windy City would not go quietly as a Cody Keefer three run homer in the top of the 6th brought home Corey Bass and Johnny Eierman, giving the Bolts a 3-2 lead. Washington would take the lead back shortly after in the bottom of the 6th inning when David Popkins belted a solo homer over the centerfield wall, tying the game at 3-3. Alex McKeon played the role of hero; hitting a two run homer in the bottom of the 6th giving the Wild Things a final score 5-3 lead.
The Wild Things again started off the scoring in game two, with a Grant Fink solo Home Run giving Washington a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd. A leadoff single by Windy City’s Reggie Lawson set up a two run homer by Blair Beck, giving the ThunderBolts the 2-1 lead. Coco Johnson added some insurance in the top of the 5th with a solo home run that extended the Windy City lead to 3-1
