Washington Sweeps Lake Erie with 7-3 Victory Sunday Afternoon!

Lake Erie, OH (June 12, 2016) – The Washington Wild Things poured on seven runs to defeat the Lake Erie Crushers and sweep the series on Sunday afternoon.  Sam Agnew Weiland earned the win on the mound, surrendering just one run and striking out three in 5.1 innings pitched.

In what seemed to be a pitcher’s duel, the game remained scoreless for six straight innings. Ricky Rodriguez and Bryan Haar were both hit by pitches to lead off the top of sixth, putting a runner in scoring position. Logan Uxa followed with a walk to load the bases. Nick Ferdinand finally broke the shutout, delivering an RBI single that brought home Rodriguez and Haar to give the Wild Things a 2-0 lead. Jimmy Yezzo followed with an RBI single of his own, extending the lead to 3-0. Grant Fink broke the game open with a three run home run to extend the lead to 6-0.

The Crushers answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the 6th when Connor Oliver hit a solo shot, cutting the lead to 6-1.

But The Wild Things responded when Yezzo hit a solo shot and extended their lead to 7-1 in the top of the 7th inning.

Lake Erie attempted a comeback when  Jose Barraza singled and set up Connor Oliver’s second home run of the night making the score 7-3 in the 8th.  But that was all the offense the Crushers could muster.

The Wild Things return home to begin a three game series with the Joliet Slammers, beginning on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 E.D.T.  For tickets visit the box office at CONSOL Energy Park or call 724 250 9555.
