Washington Falls to Slammers 5-1
Washington, PA – The Washington Wild Things returned home Tuesday night after a successful sweep on the road against the Lake Erie Crushers. The Wild Things dropped game one of a three game series against the Joliet Slammers by a final score of 5-1. Slammers pitcher Kaleb Ort improved to (2-1) on the season with the victory. Wild Things pitcher Matter Fraudin was charged with the loss, surrendering five hits and striking out three in six innings pitched.
The Slammers found the scoreboard first when Boo Vazquez hit an RBI triple that would bring home Charlie White, giving Joliet an early 1-0 lead. Former Wild Thing Carter Bell followed with a sacrifice fly that would bring home Vazquez, extending the lead to 2-0. The Wild Things answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the 1st when a David Popkins RBI single brought Jamal Austin home, cutting the lead to 2-1.
Boo Vazquez once again found home plate with a solo shot in the top of the 3rd, extending the lead to 3-1. Slammers catcher Joe Staley led off the top of the 7th with a standing double and would eventually reach home on a Charlie White 1-3 putout again extending the lead to 4-1. The Wild Things threatened with runners in scoring position off a Nick Ferdinand walk and Jimmy Yezzo single, but were unable to reach home. A Carter Bell sacrifice fly in the top of the 8th added some insurance to the Slammers lead extending it to a final of 5-1.
