Washington Wins Series Against Windy City; Strong Pitching Outing Falls Short

Washington, Pa – The Washington Wild Things (17-15) fell to the Windy City Thunderbolts (20-13) by a score of 4-1 in a Sunday afternoon nine-inning battle.

The Father’s Day match-up served as a pitcher’s game; 19 total strikeouts were recorded between the two staffs, and only 13 collective hits were allowed.

The Wild Things jumped first; leadoff hitter Jamal Austin shot a single in the bottom of the first, followed by a single to left field by Ricky Rodriguez. Bryan Haar grounded into a fielder’s choice – scoring Austin and making the game 1-0 after the first.

Though Washington came out swinging, producing four hits, it was not enough to hold the Thunderbolts. Rodriguez lead the Wild Things offense with two hits in the outing. Washington did rally around their pitcher as they produced three 1-2-3 innings.

Washington wins the series against Windy City (2-1) with victories from Friday and Saturday.

The Washington Wild Things will face the Gateway Grizzlies for a Wednesday, June 29 doubleheader starting at 6:05 p.m. EDT.
