Wild Things Split Doubleheader with Gateway Grizzlies
WASHINTON, PA – The Washington Wild Things (21-19) and the Gateway Grizzlies (18-21) faced off in a June 29, 2016 doubleheader at CONSOL Energy Park. Washington and Gateway split the night with scores of 5-1 and 2-1.
In the first game, RHP Trevor Foss (6-2) led Washington to victory; he allowed only five hits and one run during the outing - lowering his season ERA to 2.04. The Wild Things’ offense came alive as Uxa, Wobrock, Popkins, Ferdinand and Austin produced hits. Washington’s defense was strong – ending four innings in a 1-2-3 fashion.
In game two RHP Chase Cunningham (2-4) got the nod and took the mound; he allowed no runs and only two hits, produced one strikeout and lowered his ERA to 2.68.
Washington blasted one hit – a single by Nick Ferdinand in the second.
Zac Grotz (0-1) entered the seventh inning, and suffered the loss when Logan Davis doubled and drove in Blake Brown and Sam Fischer giving Gateway a one run edge.
