Foss Leads Washington to Victory
WASHINGTON, PA – The Washington Wild Things (27-22) and the Schaumburg Boomers (24-28) went head-to-head in a July 10, 2016 afternoon battle. The Wild Things won the outing and the series with the Sunday 8-1 victory.
RHP Trevor Foss (7-2) led Washington in the outing; he produced eight strikeouts, allowed only nine hits and lowered his season ERA to 2.36 in his nine innings on the mound. The Wild Things were strong defensively, executing four 1-2-3 innings behind the pitcher.
Washington struck first, scoring in the first. The newest Wild Thing, Jamodrick McGruder, blasted a triple in his first at bat. He was able to cross the plate when David Popkins shot a double. After the first, Washington led over the Boomers 1-0.
The game exploded offensively after the first; Washington recorded 13 hits compared to the Boomers’ six. Jamodrick McGruder, David Popkins, Kyle Pollock, Ricky Rodriguez, Logan Uxa and Chris Grayson executed hits during the outing. DH Jimmy Yezzo was the offensive standout tonight; he blasted back-to-back homeruns. Schaumburg’s only run came in the fourth after a RBI single.
