Washington Drops Game One of a Three Game Series Against Southern Illinois

WASHINGTON, PA – The Washington Wild Things took on the Southern Illinois Miners in game one of a three game series at CONSOL Energy Park Friday . The Miners took game one by a final score of 4-2. Dyllon Nuernberg picked up the win for the Miners, surrendering two runs and striking out six batters in six innings. Luke Wilkins surrendered three hits and struck out two in the loss.

The Wild Things got off to an early lead in the bottom of the second. Back to back walks to Logan Uxa and Kyle Pollock set up a two run RBI double from Austin Wobrock to give the Wild Things a 2-0 lead. The Miners answered with a run of their own in the top of the 3rd on a Nolan Earley RBI single, cutting the lead to 2-1.

The Miners hitting continued into the 4th as a Steve Marino two run home run propelled the Miners to a 3-2 lead. Southern Illinois extended the lead in the top of the 5th with a solo shot from Craig Massey, extending the lead to 4-2. The Wild Things registered singles in the in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings but could not reach home plate.

The Wild Things continue their series with the Miners Saturday at CONSOL Energy Park when the Wild Things and CONSOL Energy salute first responders.  Everyone entering the park will receive a fireman’s cap.  In addition the team will wear specialty jerseys that will be auctioned off with proceeds benefitting Western PA Kidney Support Groups.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 EDT.
