Washington Defeats Florence 4-1
FLORENCE, KY – The Washington Wild Things (32-31) took on the Florence Freedom (28-38) Sunday evening at UC Health Stadium. Washington emerged victorious in a 4-1 victory. Matt Fraudin (5-4) picked up another win on the mound, finishing with a 2.56 ERA and five strikeouts in seven innings pitched. Jordan Kraus (1-3) is charged with the loss, finishing with a 3.09 ERA and five strikeouts in seven innings pitched.
Andrew Heck got things started for the Wild Things with a leadoff single to begin the 1st inning. Ricky Rodriguez followed up with a single of his own to advance Heck to third. The Wild Things then took a 1-0 lead on hit from David Popkins that resulted in a double play but brought home Heck.
The game remained a pitchers duel as the scoreboard read zeros for five straight innings. The Freedom finally managed to get on the board with a wild pitch to Daniel Fraga that brought home Mason Salazar, who reached base earlier in the inning on a leadoff walk.
The Wild Things answered in the top of the 8th with a lead off walk to Austin Wobrock and single by Andrew Heck. The go ahead run then came on a pass ball that brought Wobrock across the plate, giving Washington the 2-1 lead. The Wild Things added some insurance in the top of the 9th with a two run bomb from Grant Fink that extended the lead to 4-1.
