Wild Things Drop Double Bill To Slammers
WASHINGTON, PA – The Washington Wild Things (43-44) and the Joliet Slammers (48-40) went head-to-head in a Friday, August 26, 2016 doubleheader at CONSOL Energy Park. Joliet won both games with scores of 5-1 and 4-2.
RHP Matt Fraudin (7-7) was the losing pitcher for the Wild Things in game one. During his 4.2 innings on the mound, Fraudin allowed seven hits and struck out three Slammers. Joliet RHP Liam OSullivan (10-1) recorded the win on the mound.
Joliet tallied its five runs during the fifth inning - Jake Gronsky, Carter Bell and Mike Garza all recorded RBIs. Garza hit a three-run homerun in game one. Washington threatened in the seventh when Grant Fink scored his 21 run of the season.
Game two started Wild Thing LHP Brandon Bixler (1-1) and Slammer Chris Rice (4-1) on the mound. Bixler pitched 3.2 innings, and shutdown two Slammers. Rice served as the winning pitcher on the outing.
Joliet scored in the top of the first when Carter Bell knocked in Jake Gronsky with a single; and again when Melvin Rodriguez crossed the plate in the second. Washington answered the run in the bottom of the second when a single by Jimmy Yezzo scored David Popkins.
Both teams scored in the fourth: the Slammers when Charlie White singled in Joe Staley and the Wild Things when Ricky Rodriguez hit a homerun. The Slammers scored again in the seventh when White knocked in Melvin Rodriguez.
These two teams will meet again tomorrow, Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 guests to enter CONSOL Energy Park will receive a knit hat courtesy of People’s Natural Gas.
