Wild Things Sweep Florence, Drop Central Magic Number to 3
FLORENCE, Ky. (Aug. 30) – Washington got a quality start and plenty enough offense in the road regular season finale to take down the Y’alls for the sixth-straight time at Thomas More Stadium, as the Wild Things finished the road trip with a sweep with a 9-2 win in Northern Kentucky.
Kelvin Perez got the ball for Washington in the series finale at Florence and earned his sixth win behind his fourth quality start. He suffered just one blemish on a solo homer in the sixth by Brendan Bobo. Perez fanned three hitters and allowed five hits in the victory.
Washington scored the game’s first run in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Caleb Ketchup, a few innings after he took away the game’s potential first run, robbing Hank Zeisler of a homer on a spectacular leaping grab in left center in the first inning. The Wild Things plated two more in the fifth on a two-run single by Connor Peek plating Isaias Quiroz and Miles Simington, who had reached on a bunt single and a double, respectively.
The scoring halted until a five-run eighth for the Wild Things, highlighted by Peek’s third RBI and a pair of two-run homers, one by Wagner Lagrange and the other by Quiroz. Eldridge Armstrong III put up zeroes in relief in the seventh and eighth innings. Cole Fowler homered in the top of the ninth for his 13th of the season, making it 9-1.
Florence added a Marcus Brodil homer in the ninth off Michael Foltz Jr., making it 9-2 before Foltz finished off the sweep with a double play ball that followed a walk.
Washington dropped its Central magic number to three with the win and is set for the final six regular season games to be played at home at EQT Park this week. The first of six starts at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday against Gateway on a $2.50 Tuesday and Red Out.

Washington, if it wins the Central, will host Friday, September 11 and Saturday, September 12 (if necessary) in the best of three. If they get in as a wild card team, the Wild Things will host Wednesday, September 9.
