Foster Helps Washington Blank Florence, Drop Central Magic Number to 6
FLORENCE, Ky. (Aug. 28) – Entering Friday’s series opener in Florence and his 14th start of the season, Kobe Foster sported a career 0.82 ERA against Florence in 10 appearances, nine of which were starts. In 55 career innings against the Y’alls, he had allowed only five runs including a shutout earlier this year over nine frames. When he exited tonight’s start in a 6-0 Washington win, he had lowered his career ERA against Florence to 0.73 with seven shutout frames that included just two hits allowed and six strikeouts.
It was Foster’s likely final outing before voting around the league is complete for the league’s yearly honors, as Foster, the 2022 Frontier League Rookie of the Year, vies for his first Frontier League Pitcher of the Year award and a bid to the All-Frontier League Team. He was coming off in some respect his worst outing of his career earlier this month in Mississippi, where he allowed a career-high 11 hits and seven earned, looking rather human.
Foster walked three around the two hits and used 104 pitches to get through seven scoreless and had three conventional one-two-three innings in his ninth win of the year. Michael O’Hanlon finished the night with two scoreless for Washington’s 10 shutout of the season.
The Wild Things got a run in the first on an RBI single by Andrew Czech, which was good for both his 99th hit and 99th RBI of the season. Connor Peek and Caleb Ketchup knocked home runs in the fourth to make it 3-0, Miles Simington launched a homer in the seventh to make it 4-0 and the Wild Things added two in the eighth on singles by Cole Fowler and Peek.
The Wild Things dropped their Central Division magic number to six with the win while Evansville knocked off Lake Erie, not allowing the number to come down any more this evening.
Tomorrow’s middle game will see righty Ben Kowalski take the mound for Washington against Florence lefty Evan Webster. First pitch is scheduled for 6:36 p.m.

Washington, if it wins the Central, will host Friday, September 11 and Saturday, September 12 (if necessary) in the best of three. If they get in as a wild card team, the Wild Things will host Wednesday, September 9.
