AJ Orrico Joins Wild Things In Joliet

JOLIET, Il. (May 21) – The Wild Things have made several moves over the last few days and today, announced the signing of infielder AJ Orrico, who has joined the team in Joliet prior to Wednesday’s middle game.

Orrico got his pro ball start in 2024 in 10 games with Charleston (ATLL) and was 3-for-26 at the plate with a triple and two RBI. He stole three bases and drew nine walks as well, good to make his OBP .343 in the limited sample size. He played the 2020 season at Stetson before finishing his collegiate career with three seasons at Lynn University fo0r the Fighting Knights. There he finished top 10 in program history in runs scored (137), walks (96), stolen bases (42), sacrifice hits (14) and assists (337). He had a 19-game hit streak during his senior season in 2024, a season that saw him hit .282 with two doubles, 39 runs scored and drive in 19 to go with 14 stolen bases.

He hit .330/.441/.403 with five doubles, three triples, a home run and 16 RBI in 2023 with 35 walks drawn to 14 strikeouts. He slashed .351/.444/.404 in 2022 at Lynn in 47 games, He drove in 17, drew 32 walks and stole 12 bases. He also brings six seasons in summer ball with him.

The Wild Things also activated infielder Tommy Caufield from the 7-Day IL Wednesday. Prior to today, Washington transferred OF Jake DeLeo from the 7-Day to the 14-Day IL Saturday night after the game in Florence, while the team announced that RHP Brent Francisco had his contract purchased by the Twins yesterday.

The club’s active roster has returned to 25 players with the middle game in Joliet scheduled for 7:35/6:35 p.m. CT at Slammers Stadium.
