Reed Brings Power in Otherwise Powerless Exhibition at EQT Park

WASHINGTON, Pa. (April 30) - The Washington Wild Things hosted the Black Sox Wednesday in exhibition play at EQT Park. While the stadium was without power for most of the game due to storms in the area Tuesday, it was Tyreque Reed who brought the power to the field, connecting on a home run in his second plate appearance of the spring.
Reed, the 2024 Frontier League batting champ, lifted a sac fly in the first inning that plated 2024 Frontier League MVP Caleb McNeely after he drew a walk and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches. Reed then homered in his second trip off the scoreboard before being retired in his final two trips of the day. The two-RBI effort was part of a seven-run outing for the Wild Things bats.
The Wild Things scored four times in the fourth inning, three coming after Reed's leadoff homer. Andrew Czech doubled off the wall and was moved to third on an infield hit by Tommy Caufield. Czech scored on a bases-loaded walk to Willie Estrada and Caufield on a base hit by Brett Roberts. A walk to Sammy Infante brought in Andy Blake for the fourth tally of the frame. Washington tacked on two in the bottom of the ninth of the 10-inning contest, the first on an RBI single by Jake DeLeo and the second on a wild pitch that scored Roberts. He had doubled.
Estrada had a hit in his only other trip besides the walk while Roberts posted the only two-hit effort for the Wild Things.
Things went well in the field and on the mound for the Wild Things too. Marlon Perez scattered four singles in his two scoreless innings to start the game, but struck out all six outs. Jordan DiValerio then authored two scoreless frames around three hits. Ryan Chasse fanned a batter and allowed a single in the fifth, a scoreless outing. Jason Hughes, with four free passes (two BB, two HBP), was tagged for the Black Sox only run but also struck a batter out. Second-round draft pick Jake Carroll allowed a hit and struck a batter out in the seventh inning. Jackson Hicks faced six hitters and retired them all in an exhibition-like eighth inning with two strikeouts. Brent Francisco fanned two in a scoreless ninth and Hector Garcia walked a batter that ended up caught stealing (Jommer Hernandez) in an otherwise clean 10th inning.
With power restored, the Wild Things will play in front of schools tomorrow against Florence at 10:35 a.m. at EQT Park. The game is NOT open to the general public. The club plays Lake Erie at EQT Park Sunday at 3:05 p.m. with tickets available here. Ottawa visits the ballpark Wednesday, May 7 at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for that game are available here. Both of those games are free admission but you must reserve seats.
For tomorrow's game, a live YouTube stream with a wide-angle only camera will be provided with a PA feed. Any other broadcast details will be relayed on the social media platforms of the team tomorrow morning.
