Wild Things Multi-Year Partnership With Coen Showcases Commitment to Community

WASHINGTON, Pa. (Feb. 26) – Since 2002, the Washington Wild Things have been a staple in the Washington and surrounding tri-state community. Beyond the competitive baseball and affordable family entertainment the organization strives to provide to the entire community, the Wild Things have immersed themselves in being an asset to the community by supporting youth sports initiatives, being a home for local college and high school baseball teams and being a means for all of the people of the Tri-State community to enjoy a night out at the ballpark for baseball, concerts, festivals and much more.
The southwest Pennsylvania region is built around community support, whether it’s a restaurant, retailer or a supplier of services. The Wild Things value and cherish local partners that prioritize the quality of life in the tri-state area and ensure families can continue to thrive. Local partners are a huge piece of what allows the Washington Wild Things to truly be, your team.
Announced in December as part of the turf replacement project, the Wild Things and Coen Markets have struck a multi-year partnership that will make Coen Markets a big presence at the ballpark, a valuable partner and even more a staple of the local community Coen Markets also calls home.
“The opportunity to become a permanent fixture at Wild Things Park was one we couldn’t pass up. The Wild Things are such a community staple here in our backyard and after two years of a successful partnership, it felt like a natural next step in our partnership journey,” said Andrea Neurohr, Vice President, Marketing at Coen Markets. “Coen Markets has been in the Washington County community for over a century. We are family-owned, born here, raised here and still here. Nothing is more important than giving back and being a part of the community that we’re in, and the family atmosphere and place in the community the Wild Things provide makes this an easy decision and we’re excited for what’s to come.”
Coen’s logo will be on the newly installed turf at Wild Things Park and Coen becomes one of a handful of multi-year partners with the organization with the deal.
“To date we’ve done one-year deals with the Wild Things,” said Neurohr. “While that’s worked and been successful, signing on for a longer commitment to be a permanent fixture on the field and with the team brings that partnership to the next level, and it’s a step we’re excited to take.”
Like the Wild Things, Coen has made it an effort to give back to the community in more ways than just this partnership. Coen’s charitable donations and community efforts go back 100 years. Coen Markets, Inc., began serving the public in 1923 and now has more than 50 locations in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. On its website, Coen Markets talks about the belief it has that nothing is more important than giving back to the community where it got its roots, a belief the Wild Things share.
The entire mission of the Wild Things is to give back and provide to the community the team calls home and to make it so everyone can enjoy an experience had at the venue, again, whether it’s for Wild Things baseball, the WPIAL Baseball Championships, local school and youth sports, concerts, festivals and much more.
“Giving back to the community in which we work and live should be a priority for all businesses in our opinion and we don’t take that responsibility lightly,” said Neurohr. “Whether it’s helping to fund research at a hospital or sponsoring the local high school team, community involvement can and has come in many different forms over the years. We win when the community wins, and we will never stop giving back to our community that has given us so much.”
Coen Markets will also bring their signature pepperoni rolls to the ballpark as part of the partnership, allowing Wild Things fans and patrons alike can enjoy those as part of the experience they get with the Wild Things. The plan is to bring the rolls to the main concession stands as well as Express Things, the Wild Things’ grab-and-go stand, located behind home plate.
“Coen’s pepperoni rolls are a customer favorite and also very ballpark friendly, so bringing these to the ballpark just made sense, and we’re very excited about it,” said Neurohr. “The pepperoni rolls you will be able to sit in the stands and eat while watching the game will be the same family recipe pepperoni rolls you find in our stores. We look forward to getting these in more hands so even more customers can enjoy them.”
All in all, the deal with Coen Markets is a big step for both the partner and the team, and the Wild Things are excited to have Coen Markets on board and to watch as the partnership with another local community staple grows.
“We have had a great relationship with Coen over the past few years and value their commitment to their roots here in Southwestern Pennsylvania,” said Wild Things president and general manager Tony Buccilli. “Their passion for community, high-level customer service and providing superior products align with many of our core beliefs. It will be a great opportunity to stand beside the Coen brand and create so many memories here at the ballpark for the years ahead.”
The turf project is still ongoing after the rough weather over the last month and change has impacted install.
