Dariel Fregio Named Frontier League Pitcher of the Week
WASHINGTON, Pa. (May 27) – Following a very successful week at the office and on the bump for the Washington pitching staff, one Wild Thing has been named Frontier League Pitcher of the Week for his efforts. Dariel Fregio earned a complete-game victory Thursday against Evansville and has now won this weekly honor three times in his short pro career after winning it twice last season.
The Wild Things have combined to make seven quality starts this season, six of which have come in the last eight games. Kobe Foster has made two such starts in that span, with Fregio, Zach Kirby, Jordan DiValerio and Malik Barrington joining the lefty in that department. Fregio’s outing was the deepest a Wild Thing has pitched into a game this season and that rang true when he delivered his first pitch in the eighth inning Thursday.
The right hander’s outing was scoreless until the ninth when he was tagged for three of the seven hits he allowed in the start and both runs in the complete-game effort. Fregio struck out nine Otters and walked just one opposing Evansville hitter in what turned out a 5-2 Washington win and Fregio’s first victory on the mound this season.
Fregio, a Wesley Chapel, Florida, native, is in his second season with the Wild Things and as a professional in 2024. He was twice named Frontier League Pitcher of the Week in 2023, with the latter being after his final start of the season, the other complete game on his pro resume, against Windy City. He fanned a career-high 10 in that win and allowed three hits in a shutout.
Dariel is scheduled to make his next start tomorrow against the Otters at Bosse Field in Evansville, with first pitch scheduled for 7:35 p.m. ET. This is also the second-straight week the Wild Things have had a player honored with weekly laurels by the league, with the Player of the Week honor going to Andrew Czech a week ago today.
