Wild Things Sign OF Quincy Latimore for Return, Set Opening Day Roster

WASHINGTON, Pa. (May 8) – The Washington Wild Things have signed outfielder Quincy Latimore, a veteran of over 2,000 games of professional baseball and a former Wild Thing, as well as set the team’s Opening Day roster, with final spring transactions made today, presented by McClellands Contracting and Roofing, LLC.

Latimore, a fourth-round pick of the Pirates in 2007, played in the Pirates organization until 2013, when he played a season in the Cleveland farm system. He had a stop in 2014 in the Nationals’ system, played from 2015-16 in the Baltimore farm system and in the Dodgers and Tigers organizations in 2017, in affiliated ball. His stop in Washington was in 2013 and he was signed by the Pirates again before going to the Nationals.

With the Wild Things, Latimore played in 41 games, hit six homers and drove in 22 runs. In 2018, he played in the Mexican League and did the same in 2019, that also included a stint with High Point in the Atlantic League, an organization he also played with in 2021, 2022 and 2023. He’s played plenty of games in foreign pro leagues, most recently two seasons of what is now four total with the Adelaide Giants of the ABL. The Giants have won back-to-back ABL titles.

Latimore is joined in the outfield on the Wild Things’ Opening Day roster by Robert Chayka, Caleb McNeely, Wagner Lagrange and Alex Ovalles. Chayka and McNeely will begin their second seasons with Washington, Lagrange his third and Ovalles his first.

The infield will be comprised of Carson Clowers, Tommy Caufield, Andrew Czech, Tyreque Reed and Evan Berkey, who was just acquired from Ottawa to partially complete a previous trade that sent RHPs Matt Dallas and McLain Harris to the Titans, earlier this week. Clowers, Caufield and Czech are all holdovers from last year’s club, with Czech being the longest active Wild Thing, entering his fourth season with the team.

The catchers on the Opening Day roster are Ricardo Sanchez and the returning JC Santini. Sanchez will begin his third Frontier League season, but first with the Wild Things.

The starting rotation will be comprised, at the jump, of five starters. Kobe Foster, Jordan DiValerio, Malik Barrington, Dariel Fregio and Zach Kirby will start the season in the rotation. The bullpen will be anchored in the back end by Alex Carrillo, who returns to the league after a stint with the New York Boulders in 2021 and returning relievers Lukas Young and Justin Goossen-Brown. Also making up the bullpen are lefty Frankie Giuliano, over from the Trois-Rivieres Aigles last season and acquired in the offseason from Ottawa, as well as righties Gyeongju Kim, Hunter Stevens and Nick MacDonald, who will play his second season in the Frontier League. His first was with the Titans last year.

Other transactions completed Wednesday were infielders Jalen Miller and Daniel Harris IV being placed on the 14-Day IL. The Wild Things also released OF Briley Knight, C Raul Ortega and LHP Zach Grace Wednesday, after trading Dallas and Harris May 5. From the spring roster, LHP Kenny Williams, OF Sheldon Johnson and LHP Tanner Propst were all released during camp. LHP Edwar Polimir and LHP Yeury Gervacio were placed on the suspended list.

Washington is set to open its season at home Friday, May 10 against the Boomers. Tickets are available for this weekend’s opening homestand with Schaumburg at washingtonwildthings.com. Friday features fireworks presented by North Franklin Township. On Saturday, former Wild Things’ OF and fan-favorite Hector Roa will officially retire as a Wild Thing, be honored on field before the game and the first 1,000 fans will receive a Roa poster courtesy of The Perryman Company. On Sunday, it’s a Blueprints Kids Eat Free Sunday and Prince and Princess Night presented by Coen Markets. The first 500 mothers in attendance will receive a single-stem flower to celebrate Mother’s Day too. First pitches Friday and Saturday are at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday’s contest begins at 1:35 p.m.
