Wild Things Swipe Exhibition Game in Florence to Open Spring Slate

FLORENCE, Ky. (April 30) – The Washington Wild Things took Tuesday’s exhibition game in Florence against the Y’alls by a final of 7-5. In the win, Gyeongju Kim spun three scoreless frames with four strikeouts and was the winning pitcher, should the game have counted.

Florence got the first three runs of the contest in the first two frames before the Wild Things got on the board in the third with a two-run double by second-year infielder Tommy Caufield. The inning ended with two outs, as the teams set a seven-batter maximum during the exhibition.

Washington tied the game in the fifth on an opposite-field, run-scoring single by Andrew Czech to make it 3-3 before pouring on four in the sixth. After the bases were loaded via walk, Caleb McNeely walked with the bags full, Caufield lifted a sac fly and Daniel Harris IV knocked in two with a two bagger.

The Y’alls got singular runs in the seventh and eighth innings before Alex Carrillo finished the contest with a scoreless ninth.

McNeely, Caufield and Harris sported two-hit nights, while Washington drew 14 free passes (12 walks, two HBP). Jordan DiValerio started and surrendered four hits and three runs in three frames. He fanned four. Kim fanned four and allowed just one baserunner over his three frames. The runner was a walk. Zach Grace punched out two, Justin Goossen-Brown whiffed one and Carrillo fanned two.

The Wild Things will play the Y’alls at home tomorrow morning at 10:35 a.m. in a game that is closed to the general public on Winner’s Day.
