Wild Things Club Three Homers in Defeat in Middle Game
WASHINGTON, Pa. (July 5) – Coming off of a series-opening win last night followed by fireworks for the Fourth, the Washington Wild Things hoped to continue their three-game win streak in the middle game against the Windy City Thunderbolts. The Wild Things were unable to capture the series, however, falling 12-7 on Wednesday.
Washington (20-27) started off strong with Jack Dellinger at the helm, who in his first appearance for the Wild Things worked a one-two-three first inning. The team continued that momentum throughout the bottom of the first, with a leadoff home run by Anthony Brocato to left center field.
The excitement was short-lived, though, as Windy City (21-26) began to go to work in the top of the second. Peyton Isaacson was walked with no outs, and a double to right field by Paul Coumoulos drew his teammate to scoring position. Jonathan Waite flew out to center field, leading to a sacrifice fly as Isaacson scored. Windy City’s second run was grabbed on an RBI single to right field off the bat of Dan Robinson, pushing the ThunderBolts ahead on the scoreboard, 2-1.
The momentum would carry the ThunderBolts for the rest of the game. In the top of the third, Yonamine would hammer one out to left field, scoring himself, Isaccson, and Marina with a three-run home run. Windy City got a run on a fielder’s choice in the fourth, unearned to make it 6-1.
Washington, eager to take back the lead, switched into gear in the bottom of the fifth as Chayka ignited the team with his solo homer into left field. Brocato followed suit with his second homer of the night, bringing in Abraham Sequera on the two-run shot. The final run of the inning came on a sacrifice fly by Melvin Novoa to score Scotty Dubrule and make the tally 6-5.
Despite a ferocious offensive effort from Washington to bring themselves within one, Windy City increased their lead once again in the sixth inning. Isaacson and Yonamine hit RBI singles and both scored on a two-run double by Dan Robinson that made it 10-5 Windy City.
Windy City scored a run in the eighth and a run in the ninth around two for Washington on RBI singles by Tristan Peterson and Chayka in the bottom of the eighth.
The Wild Things are back in business on Thursday night for a 7:05 start and will look to win the series against the Windy City Thunderbolts in the rubber game.
