Four-Run Fourth Lifts Lake Erie to Victory in Middle Game
AVON, Ohio (August 27) – Washington dropped the middle game after a four-run fourth propelled Lake Erie to a lead it didn’t look back from at Mercy Health Stadium.
Washington drew first blood in the middle game with a second inning run produced by a Wagner Lagrange double and two subsequent ground outs to move Lagrange and score him. Cam Balego’s grounder to third plated Lagrange to make it 1-0.
Lake Erie didn’t score until the fourth, but it was a big inning that got the Crushers going. Kokko Figueriredo hit a two-run single to highlight the four-run frame with Najee Gaskins notching an RBI double and Connor Owings earning an RBI on a sacrifice fly to complete the scoring.
Washington got the next run but not until the seventh on Balego’s fourth homer of the season. Lake Erie answered immediately with a solo shot by Gaskins to bring the game to its final of 5-2.
The Wild Things brought the tying run to the plate in the eighth but failed to score. The loss brings the third-straight series loss to the Wild Things, who will look to salvage a game in the series Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m.
