Washington to Host Yinzer Baseball Confederacy in 2021
WASHINGTON, Pa. (October 23) - Wild Things Park and Washington County has recently been selected as the home for the Yinzer Baseball Confederacy League, to be played during the summer of 2021.
The league will be contested between four to six teams, operated by Joe Torre and Black Sox Pro Baseball. Play will run from June through mid-September with the objective to develop and showcase players for next-level job opportunities. Wild Things Park was selected as the host venue with its location central to the Frontier League footprint and within driving distance of other operating leagues. Games will be scheduled around the Wild Things 2021 Frontier League schedule and the other events planned at the stadium by Washington County Family Entertainment.
Black Sox Pro Baseball will host numerous workouts across the country over the next several months where players have to ability to earn an invitation to play in the league by the managers in place. Rosters for the league will remain intact for a month at a time to maximize the evaluation process. At the end of each month managers will make roster determinations and add/release players as necessary. Players will be required to stay at league-partnered hotels and a monthly league dues fee will be in place.
“The landscape of baseball was missing something like this and we are excited to bring it to Washington, PA. The league gives an opportunity for players and staff to be focused on getting better and being prepared as opposed to traveling across the country and grinding on the road, which most do for their off-season," said Torre. "To be with our reputable and credible program and staff will allow teams to more easily access players when there is a need. There is no better way to be seen; attend our widely scouted events, play versus the top league’s teams in Spring Training games and then play out of a pro stadium for the summer with the organization that has helped the most players obtain contracts since 2018."
Tony Buccilli, President and General Manager of the Wild Things said the league is a great opportunity to showcase Wild Things Park and Washington County as a whole.
“The league will attract players, and subsequently their families, from across the country, bringing added visibility to what Washington County has to offer," said Buccilli. "I believe the league format will greatly benefit the players and hopefully cut down on the tryout circuit. As a free agent you cannot ask for a better opportunity than to play at a venue where Frontier League teams pass through weekly.”
