Hector Roa Drive in Three in Defeat at River City
O'FALLON, Mo. (August 28) - Hector Roa drove in runs in the first, fifth and ninth innings, and now has 67 RBI on the season, but the Wild Things, despite out-hitting River City 14-13, fell 9-6 in the series opener at CarShield Field.
Washington started the scoring with three first-inning runs. Hector Roa singled to plate Ryan Cox, who had doubled to start the frame, before coming in himself on a two-run homer by Cody Erickson, his sixth of the season. River City answered in the first when Braxton Martinez hit a two-run home run.
River City then plated five on back-to-back-to-back homers in the third. The first, a three-run homer by LJ Kalawaia was followed by solo shots from James Morisano and Zach Lavy.
The Wild Things added a pair in the fifth on a single and an error, before the Rascals used four eight-inning hits to score twice more. Roa singled home a run in the ninth and the Wild Things managed to bring the tying run to the dish, but fell 9-6.
JR Davis added three hits to Roa's three-hit night, while Shaine Hughes and Brett Marr also singled twice.
The Wild Things and Rascals will do battle in the two-game series finale tomorrow at 7:35 p.m. ET.
