Michael Austin Rock Solid in Wild Things' Loss to Miners
WASHINGTON, Pa. (August 24) - Michael Austin continued on his roll over the last two months, as he pitched his way to seven innings of one-run ball, but the Wild Things fell, 2-1, to the Miners Saturday.
Southern Illinois scored a run after loading the bases with nobody out in the first, on a double play ball off the bat of Kyle Davis.
A few innings later. Washington's JR Davis plated a run with one of his two hits on the night, and tied the game at 1-1 after three.
The tie would be broken in the eighth inning, when Southern Illinois scored off James Meeker to take a one-run lead. Both teams had seven hits, and both staffs walked three and struck out at least eight opposing batters.
Former Wild Things' righty and career innings pitched record holder Chase Cunningham will make his return on the mound at Wild Things Park for the Miners tomorrow and will be opposed by Nick Gallagher. First pitch for Fan Appreciation Day tomorrow is at 5:35 p.m.
