Early Hole Too Big for Wild Things in Series Opener
FLORENCE, Ky (August 2) - An early 7-0 hole was too much for the Wild Things to climb out of, and with the hole eventually grew to 10-0, before Washington plated five to salvage something out of the series opener in Florence Friday, as it fell, 10-5.
Florence scored one in the first, two in the second, one in the third and three in the fourth before going quiet for two innings. The Freedom then scored two in the seventh and one in the eighth to finish their scoring. Ricky Ramirez Jr. and Kenny Meimerstorf both drove home three runs in the effort. Nick Gallagher took the loss after allowing seven runs (six earned) over four innings. Zach Reid went seven up, seven down, before allowing two runs in the seventh. James Meeker allowed the eighth inning run.
Freedom starter Geroge Faue took a shutout to the ninth, but yielded base hits to JR Davis and Cody Erickson before Hector Roa ended the bid with his league-lead-tying 13th home run of the season, making it 10-3. A few batters later, Cameron Baranek went to the opposite field for his seventh homer of the year, a two-run shot to bring the score to its final of 10-5.
The Wild Things also received two hits from Alex Murphy as well as Davis. They'll go back at it with the Freedom tomorrow, for a scheduled doubleheader, with game one beginning at 12:05 p.m. ET and game two at 6:05 p.m. ET. Both games are nine-inning affairs.
