Lapiana Impressive In Relief in Wild Things' Loss
WASHINGTON, Pa. (June 7) - Reliever and Chartiers Valley graduate Josh Lapiana entered tonight's series opener and picked off a base runner to get Zach Harvey and Washington out of the fifth. In the end, Lapiana allowed just one baserunner over 4.1 scoreless innings of work, but the Wild Things didn't score, and lost 4-0 to Florence.
The Freedom scored a run in the first and fourth innings against starter Troy Terzi and scored two against Harvey in the fifth before Lapiana shut the door. Only one of Florence's seven hits in the series opener was of the extra-base variety.
The Wild Things managed six hits but didn't score, with six different players collecting a single hit. Mikael Mogues and Saige Jenco both doubled.
A big story was the near-capacity crowd at Wild Things Park for the weekend opener, as 3,216 was the announced attendance. The middle game should feature a similar if not bigger crowd, as Salute to Service Night, presented by Range Resources, and Scout Night takes place on a Souvenir Saturday tomorrow at the ballyard.
The first 1,000 fans will receive a commemorative WWII baseball, presented by Range Resources and the Wild Things' military-themed jerseys, presented by Comcast Business, will be auctioned off during the game.
First pitch against the Freedom at Wild Things Park is slated for 7:05 p.m. Michael Austin takes the mound for the Wild Things opposed by the Freedom's Ryan Hill.
