Rangers' Physical OF Signs with Wild Things
WASHINGTON, Pa. (Apr. 4)- The Wild Things announced today the signing of outfielder Preston Scott for the 2019 season.
Scott joins the Wild Things after 3 seasons with the Texas Rangers organization. The slugger was selected in the 34th round of the 2016 MLB draft out of Fresno Pacific University. Preston's father, Tim Scott, enjoyed 7 years in the big leagues as a reliever with 4 clubs (San Diego, Montreal, San Francisco and Colorado).
The Scott son dominated the PacWest in his junior and senior year, smacking 34 doubles and driving in 83 runs while hitting over .340. Professionally he continued the trend of producing extra base hits and finding his way on-base. Nearly a third of his hits as a pro have gone for extra bases, including 41 doubles and 15 homeruns. Beyond his ability to drive in runs (83 RBI), he also stole 21 bases and posted a career OBP of .338.
"We annually strive to have the best outfield in the league. We have created a standard here that we ask our outfielders to uphold", said General Manager Tony Buccilli. "Being a later round draft pick from a DII school, I think Preston has a natural chip on his shoulder. There is a lot of promise to his game; power, speed, athleticism, competitiveness. The more I do this, the more I value bringing quality personalities into the clubhouse. Preston just fits as a Wild Thing and there's mutual belief he can be factor bat in our lineup", Buccilli stated.
The East Division Champions return to the field as they open the season Thursday, May 9 at River City, with the home opener slated for Friday, May 17 at Wild Things Park.
