Wild Things Release 2018 Game Schedule
WASHINGTON, Pa. - For the first time since 2012, the Washington Wild Things will open a season on the road against the Evansville Otters, as Frontier League regular-season play in 2018 begins Friday, May 11.
The 2018 Frontier League schedule was released today, and the Wild Things’ slate for next season includes two Western-Division matchups to begin the season and four series against West Division teams in the month of May. The Wild Things will open the home schedule Tuesday, May 15 at Wild Things Park, with the Gateway Grizzlies coming to town.
This is the third-consecutive season the Wild Things are on the road to start the season, as they started at Windy City last season and at Gateway in 2016. It will be the first time since 2014 the Washington has played its home opener on a Tuesday. The team did that for four-straight years from 2011-2014.
All 12 clubs in the league are scheduled to begin play Friday, May 11, with all six matchups being played intra-division.
Washington is only slated to play one home doubleheader, which is scheduled for May 23 when the Wild Things host the Southern Illinois Miners. Another highlight of the schedule is a weekday early matinée, as the Wild Things will host the Windy City ThunderBolts at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, in game two of the three-game series during the week of June 25. It is the first morning start at Wild Things Park since Wednesday, June 17, 2015 when the Wild Things hosted Southern Illinois at 10:40 a.m.
The home portion of the 2018 schedule involves eight home dates in May, 14 in June, 11 in July and 14 in August. Washington will host the 2017 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers from Friday, June 29 to Sunday July 1. Both series against the Traverse City Beach Bums at home come in the month of June, while the Wild Things get their try at the Florence Freedom, who eliminated Washington from the 2017 playoffs, at home from Friday, May 25 to Sunday, May 27.
All of the teams will go on the All-Star Break from Monday, July 9 through Thursday, July 12, as the attention turns to O’Fallon, Missouri and Car Shield Field (home of the River City Rascals), for the All-Star week festivities.
The Wild Things will round out the 2018 home slate at home from Tuesday, August 21 to Sunday, August 26, before closing the regular season on a six-game road trip with stops in Schaumburg and Lake Erie, with the trip to Avon, Ohio capping the regular season run from Friday, August 31 to Sunday, September 2.
