LHP Frank Trimarco Re-Ups Deal With Washington For 2018
WASHINGTON, Pa. - For the second time this week, the Wild Things have announced the contract extension of a pitcher, today re-signing left-hander Frank Trimarco to a deal for the 2018 season.
The 2017 Pecos League All Star came to Washington late last season after posting a 3.14 earned run average in 57.1 innings with the Tucson Saquaros. In those innings, he struck out 59 and walked just 10 batters while surrendering 60 hits. Prior to Tucson, Trimarco spent four seasons playing for Monmouth University, where he was 18-15 with a 4.64 ERA in 61 appearances (31 starts) in his four years.
Once in the Washington bullpen, Trimarco made eight appearances (one start) spanning 15 innings. He allowed nine hits and six runs (five earned) with 11 strikeouts as a Wild Thing in 2017. His one start was in the final regular season game at Traverse City. Now, a key piece of the Wild Things' bullpen returns, and the team is excited to have him back.
“We challenged Frank to be a larger contributor in 2018. His addition late last season filled a need and he performed very well in a multitude of roles," said Wild Things general manager Steven Zavacky. "Frank is very cerebral on the mound and has a great feel for all his pitches. I know Frank is going to embrace the opportunity before him and look to push Washington back to the playoffs.”
"Frank the Tank" is also excited to be back, as he and the team look to build off last year's playoff run.
"I am extremely excited to come back to Washington after an unbelievable playoff run we had last year," said Trimarco. "The atmosphere in Washington is amazing and I love the team chemistry we had."
After spending time in the Pecos League, Trimarco certainly noticed some differences once arriving in Washington, things he said he is looking forward to seeing more of in 2018.
In terms of expectations for the team and himself in 2018, the Merrick, New York, native said he wants to come back in full baseball shape after the offseason, which has allowed him and he thinks will continue to allow him to shake off some of the "fatigue" from his first professional season.
"I would love to be a starter since I was a four-year starter in college and throughout my whole life," said Trimarco. "My mentality changes when I start because I love having the control of setting the tone."
He said if he does get that opportunity, he plans on performing at an "all-star level."
Trimarco is the third 2017 Wild Things' pitcher to re-sign with the team, joining Chase Cunningham and Jake Eaton. More extensions are expected to be announced next week at washingtonwildthings.com and on the team's social media platforms.
