Wild Things LHP Nick Wegmann Drafted in 34th Round of MLB Amateur Draft by Seattle Mariners
WASHINGTON, Pa. (6/6) – For the second-consecutive year, the Wild Things have had a player selected in Major League Baseball draft. This year, reliever Nick Wegmann was taken in the 34th round by the Seattle Mariners.
Wegmann pitched in four games for Washington after signing with the team last Tuesday. The lefty toed the rubber for 3.1 innings, struck out three batters and held opponents to a .182 batting average.
Wegmann, a native of Apalachin, New York, pitched four seasons at Binghamton. For the Bearcats, Wegmann appeared in 51 games over the course of his four years with the program, and started 32 of those games. He logged 187 innings at Binghamton and struck out 140 batters to 61 walks in his career. Wegmann held a career earned run average of 3.82.
Nick played the last two seasons with his brother TJ, a catcher for Binghamton, as the duo was the only NCAA Division I sibling battery in the entire country in 2018. Nick Wegmann was named to the America East all-conference baseball team for the second consecutive season in 2018, as he earned his second-straight second-team honor.
The Wild Things congratulate Wegmann and wish him luck in the Seattle Mariners organization. He will have to stay on the active roster tonight, as the day's deadline for roster transactions has passed.
