Wild Things Add Former Morehead State Standout Braxton Morris, Release Mike Anthony

WASHINGTON, Pa. (June 11) - Today the Wild Things announced two transactions. The team has signed 2018 Morehead State graduate and infielder Braxton Morris. Washington also released right-handed pitcher Mike Anthony.

Morris, a native of Albertville, Alabama, holds his high school's stolen base record with 34 as a junior in 2013. He was named Perfect Game Southeast All-America as a senior in 2014 and earned Perfect Game Underclassmen All-America honors as a junior in 2013 as well as chosen all-county as a sophomore, junior and senior.

After graduating from Albertville High School, Morris matriculated to Morehead State University to continue his academic and baseball career. In four seasons with the Eagles, the infielder slashed .331/.412/.473 with 18 career home runs and 154 career RBI.

His best season came as a senior in 2018, a season in which the Eagles won the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament to appear in the NCAA Division I regionals. Former Wild Things' first baseman and 2017 Frontier League Regular Season and Postseason All Star Kane Sweeney was an assistant for the team. In 2018, Morris slashed .367/.443/.547. He had a career high seven home runs and drove in a career-best 59 runs. In 318 plate appearances, Morris struck out just 26 times and drew 43 free bases.

"Braxton joins us after a very successful senior season and a run into the NCAA regionals with Morehead State," said assistant general manager of baseball operations Tony Buccilli. "We look for him to add some defensive versatility to our infield and believe his diverse offensive game will translate professionally.”

The team also announced the release of right-handed pitcher Mike Anthony today. In five appearances, Anthony posted an 0-2 record with a 5.62 ERA. He pitched 16 innings.

Having won a decade-best seven straight games, the Wild Things begin a three-game series at the Gateway Grizzlies Tuesday, June 12, at 8:05 p.m. Eastern. The series opener is the first of a six-game road trip. Morris is with the team and will be active for Tuesday's game.
