Wild Things Become First Team in Frontier League History to Have Back-to-Back-to-Back Player of the Week Award Winners
For the first time since the Frontier League started giving out weekly awards, a team has had a player honored as the Frontier League Player of the Week in three-straight weeks. The Washington Wild Things became the first to do so, as third baseman Mike Hill has been selected for the honor for this past week, which ran Tuesday, June 19 through Sunday, June 24. Hill follows center fielder James Harris and right fielder Hector Roa as the last two winners of the laurels.
Each week, Pointstreak, the official statistical provider of the Frontier League and the Independent Professional Baseball Federation, selects the honorees.
Hill was 10-22 during the week that was considered, as he raised his season batting average 20 points from .257 to .277 during the week. He scored nine times, doubled twice, hit three home runs and drove in seven runs, to go along with four walks and two stolen bases.
The former Royals' farmhand has now hit safely in 21 of his last 23 including eight straight heading into this week's six-game homestand. Hill also has seven of his eight home runs in the month of June, including six in his last 12 games. His eight home runs are the fourth-highest total in the Frontier League so far in 2018.
Hill and the Wild Things begin a six-game homestand tomorrow, when they welcome the Windy City ThunderBolts to It's About the Warrior Field at Wild Things Park for the first of three with the East Division foe. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
