Washington Snaps Three-Game Skid With Rubber Game-Forcing Win Saturday

Kyle Pollock snapped a 17-day dry spell without a home run when he belted a two-run shot to build a Wild Things a lead late in the sixth inning. The home run proved to be the difference maker in the game to give Washington (26-18) the win 9-6.

Prior, newly acquired pitcher Taylor Bloom pitched 5.0 innings before being relieved after facing four batters in the fourth, three of which scored. The former Maryland Terrapin gave up six hits and four runs in his professional debut and held the Boomers (23-20) to just one run through five innings before losing it in the sixth.

Schaumburg found itself down early. In the bottom of the second inning, newly acquired first baseman Conner Simonetti grounded into a double play, a ground ball on which right fielder Hector Roa was able to cross the plate. The very next batter, shortstop Brett Marr, hit a double and scored third baseman Mike Hill. This put Washington up over Schaumburg 2-0.

In the third the Wild Things offense continued to press Boomers’ starting pitcher Will Stillman (0-1). After Stillman gave up two walks to Pollock and left fielder Roman Collins, Hector Roa was able to drive in another run on an RBI single.

Schaumburg’s comeback began in the fourth when left fielder Ty Moore was brought in on a groundout by third baseman Kenny Towns.

In the bottom half of the inning Wild Things second baseman Carter McEachern hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring in Marr and extend the lead to 4-1.

Schaumburg kept the game interesting in the sixth when Moore hit a three-run shot to tie the game. Bloom was then relieved by Sam Mersing who able to close out the inning and eventually recorded his second win of the year.

In the bottom half of the frame, the Wild Things would collect four more runs, two of them off the Pollock home run.

The Boomers plated two more runs in the seventh to stay within striking distance, however Davis Adkins would end the comeback threat on the very next batter.

The bottom half of the seventh saw designated hitter Jordan Edgerton blast a solo home run to add another insurance run, his first as a Wild Thing.

Zach Strecker was able to record his 10th save over the last two innings of play to close out the game, allowing just two hits and striking out three batters.

The Wild Things are back in action tomorrow for the rubber match against the Boomers at 5:35 p.m. Thomas Dorminy is scheduled to toe the rubber for Washington, while Payton Lobdell will take the mound for Schaumburg.
