Wild Things Trade Frontier League All-Star
Washington, PA – (October 5, 2016) Another Washington Wild Things’ standout found his way to the Atlantic League, according to officials. RHP Zac Grotz has been traded to the Bridgeport Bluefish for a player to be named later.
Grotz was a 2016 signing for the Wild Things, following his strong 2015 campaign with the Houston Astros. The California native was selected in the 28th round of the MLB draft after completing his college career with a sparkling season at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Grotz posted a 1.36 ERA in 2016, collected 10 saves and struck out 51 batters in 46 innings. In mid-August the Los Angeles Dodgers purchased the Frontier League All-Star’s contract. Grotz continued his dynamite pace with Ogden in the Pioneer League, posting a 0.50 ERA and only allowing one earned run in 18 innings. For 2016, as a whole, the righty only allowed eight earned runs in 34 games.
“Zac spent 2016 looking to prove something and continued to pitch with that chip on his shoulder,” said Wild Things’ General Manager Steven Zavacky. “On the field, we appreciate his passion and willingness to accept any role put in front of him. Off the field, we appreciate his overwhelming desire to connect with Wild Things’ fans and the Washington community. We were happy to provide Zac the opportunity to play for the Dodgers and now we are happy to provide him this opportunity with Bridgeport, because he has earned it.”
The Wild Things, who released their 2017 game schedule earlier this week, are currently accepting season ticket deposits and booking group outings for the 2017 campaign. For information, call the box office at 724.250.9555.
