Wild Things Sign LHP Vince Apicella

Washington, PA – (October 19, 2016) The Washington Wild Things announced their first signing of the 2017 season Wednesday.

LHP Vince Apicella began his college career at Coastal Carolina, home of many former Wild Things. He sparked his career in 2014, however, when he transferred to Carson-Newman.

Over his next three seasons with the Eagles, Apicella made 37 starts and pitched 14 complete games. The Dillsburg, PA native has successfully posted over one strikeout per inning since 2014, and he became one of the most dominant pitchers in Division II baseball.  Apicella was signed by the Normal Cornbelters during the 2016 season, but during the offseason he quickly chose to sign with the Wild Things and continue his professional career playing in his home state.

“Vince isn’t defined by his 2016 season with Normal. Playing a full college season then jumping right in with a professional team isn’t easy for any player, especially pitchers,” said Wild Things’ General Manager, Steven Zavacky.  “The South Atlantic Conference (where Apicella pitched) is annually a hitters’ league, making what Vince did over three seasons very special. We wholeheartedly believe that with an offseason to focus on playing in Washington, Vince has the makeup to be successful in this league.”

The Wild Things begin their 16th campaign in May of 2017.  The home opener is scheduled for Friday, May 19th when Washington hosts the Windy City Thunderbolts.  Ticket and group packages are currently available at the box office.
