Wild Things Add Bullpen Arm
Washington, PA (November 28, 2016) -- The Washington have signed RHP Chris Gammon to the 2017 squad. The submarine-reliever hopes to join the Wild Things’ bullpen following a successful career at Georgia College and a professional stint with the Garden City Wind.
Gammon transferred to Georgia College after spending two seasons with perennial powerhouse Chandler-Gilbert Community College, and his impact was felt immediately. In 2015, Gammon shined with an impressive 1.89 ERA, striking out 41 batters in 44 innings of work. He led the Bobcats with 31 appearances, six saves and a .234 BAA. To follow up his strong junior season, Gammon lowered his BAA to .183 and collected eight saves as a senior. He once again led the Bobcats with 22 appearances and struck out 26 batters in over 25 innings.
Following his senior season, Gammon signed a professional contract to join the Garden City Wind of the Pecos League. The reliable reliever continued his success, leading the team in ERA (1.89) and saves (7). Gammon continued to find a way to miss bats and end games, striking out 22 of the 78 batters he faced.
“Chris embraces and succeeds in late innings and pressure situations, which is a valuable trait. His competitiveness is the first thing that we noticed. His statistics and accolades are great, but we believe there are some intangibles that will continue to make Chris successful at the professional level here in Washington,” said Wild Things’ General Manager Steven Zavacky.
Washington will host the Windy City Thunderbolts on Friday May 19th for their home opener. Ticket and group packages are available at the CONSOL Energy Park Box office.
